PERSONALIZED TRIATHLON & ENDURANCE COACHING

Coaching Built Around the Athlete You Are and the Athlete You Want to Become

Your goals matter. So does the life you’re living while pursuing them.

At Multisport Mastery, we provide individualized, performance-focused coaching for triathletes and endurance athletes who want to make the most of their training, pursue ambitious goals, and continue developing over time.

Founded in 2007 by Elizabeth Waterstraat, our coaching team works with athletes of all levels, locally in the Chicago area and remotely around the world.

More Than a Training Plan

A training plan tells you what to do. Coaching helps you understand why you’re doing it, how you’re responding, and what needs to happen next.

Every athlete arrives with a different history, different strengths and limitations, and a different set of responsibilities outside sport. Those differences matter. They influence how much training you can absorb, how you recover, and what it will take to reach your goals.

Our work begins with understanding the athlete in front of us. From there, we build a training process that is purposeful, adaptable, and responsive to your development.

We use data to inform decisions, experience to provide context, and ongoing communication to understand what the numbers cannot tell us.

The objective is not simply to complete a schedule. It’s to develop the fitness, skills, judgment, and confidence to perform when it matters.

Ambitious Goals. Different Starting Points.

We coach athletes across a broad range of experience and ability, from first-time triathletes to national champions and world championship qualifiers.

Some of our athletes are preparing for their first finish line. Others are working toward a personal best, returning from a setback, pursuing a championship qualification, or looking for a more sustainable way to train.

Many are also balancing demanding careers, families, and responsibilities that don’t disappear when a race appears on the calendar.

We believe ambitious goals and full lives can coexist, but doing so requires thoughtful decisions about training, recovery, priorities, and the time available.

We coach athletes in:

  • Sprint and Olympic-distance triathlon
  • Ironman 70.3 and Ironman
  • Running, marathon, and ultrarunning
  • Road and gravel cycling
  • Off-road triathlon and duathlon
  • Ultracycling
  • Open-water swimming

What our athletes share isn’t a particular ability level. It’s a willingness to engage, learn, and take ownership of their development.

Individualized Training. Ongoing Attention. Shared Responsibility.

Effective coaching is a relationship, not a transaction.

We believe athletes benefit most when their coach understands their goals, recognizes their patterns, listens to their feedback, and makes decisions with both the immediate demands of training and the larger trajectory of development in mind.

Our coaching includes:

Individualized Training

Training developed around your goals, history, available time, and response to the work.

Performance Analysis

Thoughtful interpretation of training data, athlete feedback, and performance trends to guide decisions.

Consistent Communication

An ongoing dialogue about training, recovery, progress, and the challenges that inevitably arise.

Race Preparation

Guidance on pacing, fueling, equipment, course demands, and race execution so that preparation extends beyond physical fitness.

Athlete Education

An emphasis on understanding training, recognizing meaningful progress, and developing the ability to make informed decisions.

Long-Term Development

A commitment to building the adaptations, durability, and skills that support performance across seasons, not simply from one race to the next.

Engage. Educate. Empower. Excel.

Our coaching approach is built around four connected principles.

Engage

We begin by understanding the athlete, establishing trust, and creating a shared commitment to meaningful goals.

Educate

We help athletes understand the purpose behind their training, the adaptations they’re pursuing, and the information that can guide better decisions.

Empower

As athletes develop fitness and experience, we encourage greater confidence, adaptability, accountability, and ownership of the process.

Excel

We bring those elements together in training, competition, and the longer-term pursuit of athletic excellence.

These principles aren’t separate stages to complete. They inform one another throughout the coaching relationship.

Our goal is to help athletes become more capable performers while developing knowledge and skills that remain valuable well beyond a single race.

Experience That Informs the Process

Multisport Mastery was founded in 2007 by Elizabeth Waterstraat, a USA Triathlon Level III coach with extensive experience as both an endurance athlete and a coach.

Our coaching team has worked with athletes pursuing first finishes, personal records, national championships, and world championship qualifications.

We’re proud of those achievements. They reflect years of commitment from athletes and coaches working together toward meaningful goals.

But we also recognize that success isn’t limited to a podium or a qualification. It includes athletes who develop greater consistency, overcome setbacks, discover new capabilities, and remain engaged in sport over many years.

The results matter. So does the process that makes them possible.

Across a wide range of disciplines and distances, our athletes have achieved:

  • More than 30 national championships
  • More than 60 Ironman World Championship qualifications
  • More than 150 Ironman 70.3 World Championship qualifications
  • Paralympic medal success
  • Age-group victories, podium finishes, and personal bests

What It's Like to Be Coached by Multisport Mastery

“Thank you for communicating so well with me throughout this season! I’ve never experienced such depth, insight, and customization in my training plan like you’ve given me. I’m really glad I made the switch to working with you. It was hard at first and I was torn, but at the end of the day I wanted to do better for ME, and this was the best move for it. At the end of my tri season last year, I felt defeated, hopeless, and a bit resentful. At the end of this season, I am leaving excited, hopeful, and more motivated! Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me. I can’t even express how grateful and impressed I am with your coaching methods.”

“I’ve been meaning to tell you how important you’ve been to me through this whole journey. You’ve done much more than coach me to podium finishes, although that has happened, too! You’ve coached me through life and let this sport be a guidepost to get me through the tough stuff. Thanks for letting our relationship be about more than just racing.”

Carrie, South Carolina
Age group podium finisher

“I’m a recently retired guy who decided to jump headfirst into an Ironman at age 58. It was my first ever triathlon and I figured, why not start big?! I engaged Liz in January and she was amazing! I only had 5 months of lead time before the race, and she got me there despite a self-inflicted achilles injury and two self-inflicted bicycle crashes that included broken bones. How’d she do it? Her training schedule kept me throttled back when I was too gung-ho for my own good in the early days, and she pushed me hard when my body was capable of it. Her style is super clear, her attitude so positive, and she had a good read on my own strengths and weaknesses. So after the successful Ironman in June, I signed up for my first 100-mile ultra marathon at the end of August. Again, Liz nailed things for my two months of training. I not only had two big successful races under her guidance, I also learned a lot about endurance training from working with Liz.”
